‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Our Birmingham Outreach
Founded in Paris in 1833, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is a worldwide community of more than 800,000 lay Catholics, known as Vincentians, who join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to neighbors in need. We the SVDP members of Saint Mark the Evangelist, a Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, are a Eucharistic community rooted in the Word of God responding to God’s call by serving one another in the greater community and especially those who call upon SVDP for help.

About The Society
Spirituality. Friendship. Service.
“Let us go to the poor!”
The “Home Visit” remains the central work of Members and Conferences of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. On Home Visits, Vincentians do not merely “stand with” the poor; we sit with them, we listen to them, we pray with them, and we seek to help them in the best way possible. This commonly includes things like rental assistance, or help with utility bills or food. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. It includes any form of help that alleviates suffering or deprivation and promotes human dignity and personal integrity in all their dimensions.
Vincentians are not social workers. We serve as neighbors, seeking to understand the troubles of those we serve as we would a brother or sister, and to form relationships based on trust and friendship, and to walk with our neighbors in their time of trouble.

What happens when you donate your car?
When you donate a car to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, you will start the process by filling out the Online Donor Form on this website. Then our trusted partner, CarEasy.org, will contact you to arrange a free pickup of your vehicle. You will receive a donation receipt. After pickup and processing, CarEasy.org will sell the car at auction to obtain its best value.
What are the tax benefits and how much may I claim as a deduction?
The amount you may claim as a tax deduction depends on how much the car sells for through the CarEasy.org auction process.
If Your Car Sells for More Than $500
In this case, you may deduct the exact sale price of the car provided to you by CarEasy.org. For example, if it sells for $2,000, you can deduct $2,000.
You’ll receive an official IRS form (Form 1098-C) from CarEasy.org showing the sale price, which you’ll use when filing your taxes.
If Your Car Sells for $500 or Less
In this case, you won’t receive Form 1098-C from CarEasy.org, but you may still deduct up to $500 on your taxes using the donation receipt supplied to you at the time of donation. The receipt you get when your car is picked up serves as proof of your donation. You may claim the car’s fair market value or $500, whichever is less.
